LINA CONDES
Contemporary American-Ukrainian artist known for her stick figure sculptures.
Lina Condes was born in 1988 in the countryside of Cherkasy City, Ukraine. She earned her MFA in Fine Arts from Kyiv University of Technology and Design, with a focus on Interior and Furniture Design.
Her artworks have been exhibited at the Kyiv National Museum (Ukraine), Istanbul Contemporary (Turkey), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (USA), Art Miami (USA) and David E. Shaw sculptural park at Portland Museum/Maine. Condes was represented by the Avant Gallery at “Educate” at Christies’ group exhibition in New York in 2020, the Art New York in 2019, and the solo exhibition “Extra-terrestrial Odyssey” during the 57th Venice Biennale (Italy) in 2017.
Lina’s work is conceptually positioned at a heavy-light, high-low axis. The sculptures are created using common industrial stainless steel, fiberglass wood and stone, through which she seeks to authentically represent the emotional and mental lives of modern people.
THE THINKER
Lina Condes reimagines philosophical contemplation by incorporating “The Thinker” into her artistic vision, symbolizing philosophy and knowledge with a contemporary twist.
Inspired by the Italian Renaissance, she infuses traditional figurative sculpture techniques with modern technology, highlighting ‘mental states’ and emotions by blending materials and colors. Utilizing metal akin to bronze and marble, Condes seamlessly merges historical and contemporary sculpting methods, creating a distinct and innovative artistic approach.
